玉玺，专指皇帝的玉印，至高权力的象征，始于秦始皇。古代印、玺通称，以金或玉为之。帝王用来署名的印章，也有公章和私章之分，代表国家发布的诏书或文告时用的称之为公章，是皇家皇权的象征，古人又称之为宝玺、御玺、御宝或国宝。古时的人是用印信表示信用，从周朝开始的，到了秦朝，有了玺和印之分，把皇帝用的印称为玺，臣民用的称为印。因为玺专用玉制造，所以称为“玉玺”。
此青玉麒麟送子玉玺，印面为长方形，麒麟钮，采用镂空雕，雕工精湛，采用青玉雕刻，硬度最高，韧性最好，玉质细腻温润、玉色深重且纯正一致，整体呈现刚劲之气，加之青玉常见大块者，因而常常被历代封建王朝用作国玺以及大鼎等大型器皿的主要选材。阴面雕刻为“虫之”，品相略有瑕疵，麒麟角部有断痕，其余整体保存完好，具有一定的收藏价值！
