中华民国1916年6月，黎元洪在袁世凯死后继任大总统，恢复约法，召集国会。当时的武昌造币厂铸制了黎元洪像开国纪念银币，银币有黎元洪戴军帽像和黎元洪免冠版铸两种。中国近代发行的银币有上千种，但纪念银币仅占几十种，其中由武昌造币厂铸造的黎元洪开国纪念银币，其影响仅次于孙中山开国纪念币。
